I spoke to Randi Hogan of Hogan Philanthropy Consulting to learn about the 6 T’s of Giving. What I learned is that providing your unique skills to a nonprofit can be just as impactful as financial gifts.
Randi’s 6 T’s of Giving
Your Time
You can use your time to educate yourself on a local non-profit.
When you connect with one, your gift of time can be given with volunteering, joining an event they are hosting, or joining their board.
Your Talent
Your talent can be professional, intellectual, physical, artistic, and more.
How can you use this skill to help a charity pro-bono?
Your Treasure
Thoughtful financial giving – use your time to research and connect your values to a particular charity.
Give thought to the human connection – how does your money impact the charity you’ve chosen?
Your Ties
You can elevate a charity by talking about it to someone you know – talking about why you love this charity and what attracted you to them.
It can be small – maybe with family or friends. Or big – a business educating their clients and employees about charities.
Your Testimony
How can you advocate for a nonprofit’s mission?
Could you write an op-ed? Speak out to our elected leaders?
Your Truth
Is a link on their website not working? Is their website out of date? What do you see that could be improved?
It’s important to give constructive and empowering feedback. Can you provide supportive council by reaching out about trends, opportunities, and collaborations you’re aware of?
We all have the capacity to lift those around us in need. We can give compassionately while also nurturing our own self-expression and inner growth. Think about one of these T’s that resonate with you – how can you express yourself and do good for your community?
